Studying Art History in College

When deciding on an Art History Degree, there is usually a focus with that degree into a certain type of art or era. The focus on the study is usually of the historical development of art as a social and intellectual piece. Completed along the way are the analysis of works of art, and art conservation, the instruction in the theory of art, art history research methods, connoisseurship, the preservation and conservation of works of art, and the study of specific periods, cultures, styles, and themes. In a associates degree the focus on art is a bit limited with all of the other required course works. The basic core classes often over shine the art aspect. The true appreciation comes with the Bachelors of art history degrees, Masters of Art History, and a Doctorate of Art History. The Master’s and Doctorate are often required to teach Art History and some Art Museums may require this degree for some or all positions within the museum.
